The first thing you need to know about songwriting is: song structure. How is your song constructed and arranged?

The most basic song structure looks like this:

This song has an intro, two verses, 3 choruses, a bridge and an outro. Most songwriters prefer this arrangement, because it's very straightforward and doesn't distract from the content of the song. If your song has pre-choruses then it will look like this:

Both of these methods are good ways to arrange a song, but they are not the only ways!

Every song that you write will have an ideal structure. Your song will definitely be better one way than another, It will carry the message you want to send to your listeners better when it's arranged right, guaranteed! The pieces of arrangement and what transitions between the pieces you use are almost as important as the content of your song!

So start today! Make sure to incorporate finding the ideal structure and arrangement into your songwriting process.

In the next article we will go over how to find the ideal structure for your song.

Hope to see you there!
